There’s nothing worse than buying something new from the grocery store only to try it and find out that you hate it. What a waste of money. That’s why I love sharing Smart Cookie Shopping with you guys. You get to check out what’s new at the grocery store, but I try it for you first so you know if it’s worth buying or not.

Every other week, I share my findings with you, and this week brings everything from mac and cheese to ice cream. I’ve got some winners and some losers, so grab your notepad and take note of what’s worthwhile.

1. Stouffer’s Buffalo Mac & Cheeseavailable in the frozen section

I couldn’t resist these cute, single-servings macs, but when I went to try it, I couldn’t even finish it because of my overly sensitive heart-burn. I had an almost immediate reaction because of the buffalo flavor. That said, it wasn’t tasty enough to make it worth pushing through the pain. All I tasted was the buffalo, no cheesiness.

2. Hannaford Everything Hummusavailable near the produce and deli at Hannaford

I usually find Hannaford brand hummus to be the best out there, but this was not my favorite flavor. It was too zesty, with an odd aftertaste. I’ll stick to their awesome classic or roasted garlic hummus.

3. Good Humor Thin Mint Ice Cream Barsavailable in the frozen dairy section

I found these completely by accident. They were buried at the bottom of the freezer at Hannaford, and the only reason I considered them was because I was craving something mint-chocolate, and I wanted something portion-controlled. This was the biggest surprise of the lot; these treats are bangin’! I love the balance of the chocolate vs. mint, and the crunchy texture. It’s just good ice cream – definitely worth trying.

4. Welch’s PB&J Fruit Snacksavailable in the snack aisle

Admittedly, these are a little weird. They’re grape fruit snacks with a peanut butter coating. And yet, the kid in me loves them. They’re in tiny snack packs, and great for satisfying your sweet tooth.

5. Key Lime Pie Oreosavailable in the snack aisle at some grocery stores

There’s never any question; if there’s a new Oreo flavor, I’m trying it. Kudos to Ryan for spotting these. I like that they brought back the graham cracker cookie from the Smore’s Oreos, and the filling isn’t bad. It’s very tangy more so than overly sweet, so it may be perfect, depending on your flavor  preference. I’ll be baking  with these next week for you.

6. Victoria Tomato Basil Sauce available in the pasta and sauce aisle

The true test of a good jarred marinara sauce is if it tastes like it’s from a jar. This sauce was so fresh and flavorful that I wouldn’t believe it came out of a jar if I wasn’t the one who opened it. There were maybe six ingredients on the ingredient list, which is another great indicator. There were no long words for yucky things, just tomatoes, basil, and olive oil. The flavor was classic, like what you’d expect grandma to make. I’d by the sauce again and again.
